    Thursday 16 September 11:00-12:00 - Romain Lhermerout

[INTERNE] Past and current projects: wetting dynamics & confined electrolytes

Résumé : In the first part of this seminar, I will give a brief overview of the projects I worked on during my PhD and post-doc. I will start with wetting dynamics, and more specifically how this macroscopic phenomenon is influenced by the presence of a polymer layer or topographical defects at the nanometric scale on the solid surface. Then I will talk about electrostatic interactions and friction across nanoconfined ionic liquids, studied with a Surface Force Apparatus.
In the second part of the seminar, I will present my CNRS project, which aims at a fundamental understanding of the physics of confined electrolytes (in a broad sense, i.e., not only ionic liquids). I will describe the planned experimental approach, which combines mechanical and electrical measurements with a dynamic Surface Force Apparatus, in order to investigate the equilibrium properties (electrostatic interactions, structure) and transport properties (electrokinetic couplings) of these ubiquitous, yet misunderstood, systems.
