Phase-ordering Dynamics for Short- and Long-range Systems

Résumé : There is a simple and general question concerning nonequilibrium dynamics: how does a system with equivalent ground states relax to equilibrium from a disordered state? The paradigmatic example is the ordering dynamics of a magnet if the temperature is quenched.
This is an old problem and its discussion allows to elucidate the role of conservation laws and of the physical dimension of the space, which is different from that played in equilibrium critical phenomena.
In the first part of the talk I will review known results for short-range systems, than I will discuss recent results about the effects of a long-range coupling. The focus of the talk will be on the physics and I will use simplified models to explain the different dynamics.
