The team MicroTiss aims at understanding how cells probe and sense the distant mechanical environment.

Cells are individual entities, provided with dedicated sensors to probe the local chemical and mechanical environment. However, to guarantee geometric and topological organization of a tissue, as well as its homeostasis, the cells must be coordinated at the supracellular level.
To ensure this coordination, cells need to integrate the environmental information over a region much larger than their own size. Eventually they have to interpret this information and react accordingly.


  • Determine the basic bricks of cell-cell interaction
  • Understand collective mechanical excitation in microtissues
  • Establish a multiphasic description of 3D tissues
