Research Topics

The interdisciplinary research group "Mechanics of Cells in Complex Media" (MC2) focusses on the mechanics and dynamics of living or biomimetic systems and materials using experimental and modeling approaches. Recent research topics include:

- Subcellular Structures and Single Cells
- Cells on Surfaces and Cell – Matrix Interactions
- Cell Aggregates and Tissues
- Elastic Shells

Interested students should contact directly any member of the group and inquire about possibilities for internships or Ph.D. projects.

Techniques

Our experimental tools include cell culture and preparation of biological samples, microfluidics, advanced techniques in microscopy and mechanical characterization of complex media (AFM, TFM, confocal microscopy, image analysis, rheometry). On the theoretical side, we develop data driven models as well as abstract minimal mathematical models, employing full numerical simulations and parameter continuation methods.

Affiliations

The group is strongly involved in the LabEx Tec21 as well as the mechanics federation Fed 3G and the GDR MECABIO. It is also linked to GDR MFA, GDR AQV, GDR Liquides aux Interfaces and GDR Micro Nano Fluidique.
