The interdisciplinary research group "Mechanics of Cells in Complex Media" (MC2) focusses on the dynamics of living or biomimetic systems and materials (biological fluids, cells and capsules, tissues) using mechanical and physical approaches. Experimental, theoretical and numerical skills are combined to tackle interdisciplinary topics which involve complex interactions at different scales:

- * Mechanics and rheology of cells and tissues
- * Dynamics of biological and biomimetic fluids
- * Motility in complex environments
- * Growth and morphogenesis

Our experimental tools include cell culture and preparation of biological samples, microfluidics, advanced techniques in microscopy and mechanical characterization of complex media (AFM, TFM, confocal microscopy, image analysis, rheometry). On the theoretical side, we develop data driven models as well as abstract minimal mathematical models, employing full numerical simulations and parameter continuation methods.

The team is strongly involved in the LabEx Tec21 as well as the mechanics federation Fed 3G and the GDR MECABIO. It is also linked to GDR MFA, GDR AQV, GDR Liquides aux Interfaces and GDR Micro Nano Fluidique, and works in close collaboration with biologists and medical practitioners.
